Morpheus Says Farewell to Mrs. Abernethy's Cyber Chickens

By: Ben Hi everyone this is Morpheus and it is my last day here at East Elementary. I’ve had a great time here doing Study Island, Podcasting, Skyping, and using the laptops. Even though I’ve had a great time I can’t wait to get to my next school. I’m really going to miss all my friends here at East Elementary especially Ellie the ferret and Chilly the Chinchilla. Well, I got to catch my car to the next place ( I go by USPS.) Catch you later. Morpheus out!

Morpheus and the Pets

By: Tony Morpheus had a wonderful time with our pets. He has enjoyed all of our pets so much and is very sad to leave. You probably know the pets by now, but Morpehus wants to tell you again. They are Chilly the Chinchilla, Hershey the Guinea Pig, Ellie the Ferret, Lightening the Bearded Dragon Lizard, Tornado the other Bearded Dragon Lizard and Peanut Butter the Bunny. Bye!

Morpheus Learns About Revolutionary War

Hi, Morpheus here. I am going to tell you about what I learned about The Revolutionary War. I learned about the Boston Massacre. I also learned about the Battle of Bunker Hill and The French and Indian War. The Americans and the British (redcoats) fought the French and the Indians. The Americans and the British won The French and Indian War.

GEEP at East Elementary

By: Devin Hi! My name is Devin and I am going to tell you about Geep. Only five people in our class go to Geep every Monday. In Geep we learn advanced technology. We study how to make rockets, famous people, and loads of other fun stuff. As of now we are learning how to do logic puzzles. You think you know the answer, but you don't, because you didn't use common sense. Geep might have hard core learning material in it, but we can turn it into fun.

Morpheus Checks Out Our Website

Hi, I'm Morpheus Fortuna and I've been having a great time here at Mrs. Abernethy's class. One of the coolest things here is the website. Here is a link to the site: Mrs. Abernethy's Cyber Chickens. It has links to everything! It has links to research sites, Gaggle (an email site), Book Adventure (a book test site) and Mrs. A's Cyber School (the place we do Social Studies), pictures of our classroom pets, stock market, study island, Harry Potter, and let's not forget our wikispace: Mrs. Abernethy's Cyber Chickens Wikispace. They are all cool, but I think Book Adventure is the coolest. The number of books is mind boggling! Well, have to go. See ya!

Morpheus and Peanut Butter

By: Sarah
Hi, it’s me, Morpheus Fortuna, again! Mrs. Abernethy’s Cyber Chickens have a bunny named Peanut Butter and it is their classroom pet. She is so cute. Her fur is orangish yellowish and her nose is always moving. She loves to be held like a baby. Aren't rabbits just so adorable? Her ears are very long and very cute. The students also change her bedding and give her food and fresh water every morning. She’s just the cutest bunny in the world and I think I like her.

Morpheus at Band

By: Kristen
Hi! I'm Morpheus and I'm having an awesome time at East Elementary, but I'm going to talk to you about band. Band isn't just fun but awesome! Especially because of Mr. Didesiderio the band director, but we call him Mr. D. He makes band FUN! One of my friends, Kristen, plays the clarinet. There's also the saxophone, flute, trumpet, and drums. I personally like the clarinet. Well I've got to go bye!

Morpheus and Hershey

By: Garrett Morpheus here! I think Hershey is a nice small guinea pig. When they take Hershey out of his cage to clean it he squeaks really loud I think it's funny. The guinea pig caretakers clean his cage, give him baths, and they give him food and water. Sometimes someone takes him home for the weekend and brings him back on Monday. To take him home for the weekend they have to have a note from their parents. Overall I think Hershey is very friendly and loves people and bog turtles like me. That is why he is one of my favorite pets here in the class

Morpheus, Wolf Projects

Hi, Morpheus here! When I came to Mrs. Abernethy's class at East Elementary, the kids had wolf projects to make. They studied wolves in there groups. Then, they made up a game. I had a great time learning about wolves. Here is a link to some great wolves links: Wolves links Morpheus Out!

Morpheus Does Study Island

By: Halie Hey morpheous here! We use study island to get ready for PSSA. We can get ribbons. I got my first ribbon this week. In Mrs. Abernethy's class, they have to get one or two every week. After I got my first ribbon, I played games.

Morpheus Learns About Trinity

By: Nick W Trinity was a train car factory. But over the years the chemicals from the metals and the oils from the machines went in the ground . And when Commerce Park bought the site from Trinity, they knocked the buildings down and asbethos went inside the ground . Now there are chemicals in the ground creating a hazardous waste site. We have Morpheus in the class and we thought he could help us to make a difference at Trinity .

Morpheus and Chorus

Hi I’m Seth and I am here to tell you about chorus. Chorus is the time of day when kids come to the music room and learn to sing better. We start out with warm up songs. Then Mr. D usually gives us sheets of music or we work from our books. Then after we do everything scheduled we pack, up and go eat lunch.

Morpheus and The Play

By: Taylor
Hello I'm Morpheus Fortuna . On Thursday I went to play practice for The Jungle Book. My favorite song was The Bear Necessities. There were a lot of Cyber Chickens there. Mr. D is the music teacher. He is awesome just like Mrs. A. First he took attendance, and then we started to sing. The play is on March 14th and 15th but I'm not going to be there. Well I have to rest up for the night! Bye!

Morpheus and Stock Market Club

By: Robb Hi! Morpheus Fortuna, here. I am at East Elementary, Greenville, PA. I went to their stock market club this morning. In the stocks club I learned how to put in stock prices and I learned the stock prices for the day. When they were done recording their stock prices for the Herald Stock Market Game, they go on to another stock game called Stocksquest at http://stocksquest.coe.uga.edu On Stocksquest they buy and sell stocks. They have rankings and have a contest o see who is winning that week. Well that is all for now, bye.

Morpheus and Lightning the Bearded Dragon Lizard

By: Paige Hi, Morpheus here. When I came to Mrs. Abernethy's class I thought I might be lonely on the weekend, and when the children leave. Then I saw there were a lot of other animals, so I will not be lonely after all. One of my buddy's is Lightening the lizard. She is nice, and I like her a lot. She lives in the cage next to Tornado. Sometimes, Tornado gets mad at her, but they're still friends.
I think I will be friends with Lightning for a long time.

Morpheus and Project Lemonade, by Marie

Morpheus is doing Project Lemonade with us. Project Lemonade is an organization where we think of a community or world problem and we make a difference. Our project is to convince the owners of Trinity to clean it up. Trinity was an old railroad company that dumped cancerous and hazardous wastes all over the property, plus it's next door to our school! We are joining a group of adults and a lawyer, to convince the owners to clean it up, because it's a BIG danger. For more information, go to this link: http://projectlemonade.wikispaces.com/Cyber+Chickens You visiting can really help!

Election 2008

By: Michaela This month the class made posters for the 2008 primary candidates. We did these posters so people will know what the candidates are like, and so people will know who to vote for. We had to get information about all the candidates and what they are like and we had to put them on the poster. We took pictures with Morpheus in front of the posters. Everyone did a good job!

Morpheus and Ellie the Ferret

By: Jing Hi everyone, I am Morpheus Fortuna and I am having a great time at Mrs. Abernethy’s Cyber Chickens. I made a good friend here and her name is Ellie, the Ferret. She is very thin and can even squeeze in to 1 inch spaces. Ellie likes to hide in small spaces and she also can dance. She’s very cute and furry and she has a huge cage (like all pet ferrets do). Ellie is very playful and active, but she sleeps a lot, too. She loves to climb on me and I am holding her a lot.

Schoolyard Habitat

Hi! I’m Destiny! And I am going to tell you about the habitat! The habitat was created by Mrs.Abernethy. She thought it would be cool. There are a lot of terrific animals in our habitat! If you look hard enough, you can find things like burrows which are holes made by animals! You can also find things like cool frogs and toads! (Now I don’t know about you but I think that’s kind of weird!) Well, that’s all about the habitat for now! ~Bye~ Go to this site to learn more about our habitat: Our schoolyard habitat

Challenge 24

By: Jessica Hi. I’m Morpheus. I’m going you tell you about Challenge 24. Every Wednesday at 8:00, Mrs. Abernethy has a group of kids in her room play a game called Challenge 24. The goal is to make 24 out of a group of numbers. On a card there are four numbers. You can use subtraction, multiplication, division, and addition. It’s a really fun game!

Skyping

Hello! My name is Ben and I’m going to tell you about something called Skyping. Skyping is when you go on to a website called Skype.com and you can chat or hook up a webcam and talk to users. You can block out people you don’t want on your Skype list so that it is safe to use. You can use it pretty much whenever you want and wherever you want! It’s really fun and I encourage you to try it out. Mrs. Abernethy’s Cyber Chickens have been Skyping with Mrs. B’s class at Clarion School District. They skyped with us while Morpheus was visiting them. We got to meet him before he even got to Greenville. Today, Mrs. B’s class got to see him when we skyped!

Podcasting

By: Ashley Mrs. Abernethy’s class called the Cyber Chickens does podcasting. Podcasting is where you have an iPod or a microphone. You record things like talking about a book that you read or something going on in the classroom. Podcasting can also be informational like if you tell about a topic you are learning about. Watch for our Morpheus podcasts. Coming soon...

Morpheus and Chilly the Chinchilla

Hi my name is Colton and I’ll be talking about our class pet, Chilly the Chinchilla. I am one of the caretakers. I like taking care of Chilly. Every day I fill his water bottle up and fill his food dish, and dump his bedding. Then I put fresh bedding in. He is really soft like cotton, and fun to play with too. He gets a dust bath sometimes. His dust bash is in his cage so he can take it anytime he wants. He has a big cage so he can run around. He likes to chew on stuff like wood. If you want to learn more about Chinchillas, check out this site: Chinchillas That’s all I have to say. Bye.

Series of Unfortunate Events

By: Dylan The Series of Unfortunate Events is a place where you can learn all about the series. Our class made a blog and we put a bunch of our class papers and projects on it. There are podcasts on the website that are awesome. There are more things on the website, too. Morpheus has been looking at the Series of Unfortunate Events Blog Site and he thinks it's cool. You should really check it out! Here is a link: Series of Unfortunate Events

Tornado, my buddy

By: Amanda Hey! Morpheus here. On my trip to Greenville, PA East Elementary School I made a buddy. His name is Tornado. He is a bearded dragon living with the students of Mrs. Abernethy's Cyber Chickens. We hung out and had fun over the week days. When the kids went home I sure missed them, but Tornado was right there for me. Here is a link to information about Bearded Dragons: Bearded Dragon Lizards

Hell0, I'm Morpheus Fortuna and I finally made my way to East Elementary! It's amazing and awesome! When I arrived the kids were doing Study Island. I jumped right in and earned a blue ribbon. The next day was full of fun!! I couldn't believe it when 60 kids arrived a half hour before school to play this really cool game called Challenge 24. After the bell rang, Mrs. Abernethy's Cyber Chickens arrived. The first thing I did was help clean the pet cages, and it rocked! The kids took turns holding me. I got to see almost everybody. Then we posed for pictures, I was a professional model! All the kids are writing paragraphs about what they are doing in class, like Project Lemonade and Wolves projects , (you can check them out soon.) Then, there was math. I found a new seat just for me! We corrected the homework. I learned a lot! I got to see how to make a PowerPoint. They are sweet! Then we had library. I got to see some neat books. Lunch was next, and boy, it was yummy! That's all for now. I'll tell you more tomorrow, because the kids have to go home, and I want to say goodbye.

Toured the State Capitol

Hello,

Well, it is cold and snowing in central Pennsylvania. So, what better to do than to walk from PDE to the capitol building (did I mention that it was snowing). While there, I was able to see the Senate chambers and the chambers for the House of Representatives. They have a really cool website that lists all of the senators and representatives names, the different committees there are, you can look at different legislation that they are working on while they are in session and even take a virtual tour of the capital.

On our way back from the capitol, we met Dr. Zahorchak, the Secretary of Education for the State of Pennsylvania. He actually invited me to stop by and say hello to him later on today!!!

Bye for now.

I have arrived at PDE

I have successfully arrived at the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Specifically, I'm visiting the Bureau of Educational Technology on the 14th Floor. I've met some new friends and was given a new hat to wear.

While I'm here in Harrisburg I hope to meet the Director of Educational Technology for PDE and maybe even visit the State Capital.

More coming soon.
